xWatts lands £1.6M to scale AI driven energy management for large estates

London based xWatts has secured £1.6 million in seed funding to accelerate the development of its intelligent energy management platform, targeting one of the toughest challenges in the net zero transition, decarbonising large and complex real estate assets. The round was led by Cambridge Enterprise Ventures, with participation from Cambridge Angels, Parkwalk, and R42, signalling strong investor confidence in technology driven approaches to energy efficiency across non domestic buildings.

As energy prices remain volatile and regulatory pressure around emissions intensifies, owners of complex estates are under growing pressure to reduce both operating costs and carbon footprints. xWatts positions itself at the intersection of these demands, offering a platform that goes beyond monitoring and reporting to actively manage how buildings consume and generate energy.

Tackling energy complexity at scale

Founded to address the inefficiencies embedded in large non domestic estates, xWatts focuses on assets such as hospitals, universities, and industrial facilities, where energy systems are often fragmented, difficult to oversee, and costly to operate. These environments typically rely on multiple energy sources and systems operating simultaneously, from HVAC and combined heat and power units to on site solar generation.

xWatts uses AI and machine learning to model buildings in real time, creating a dynamic digital representation of how energy flows through each facility. By connecting directly to building management and energy systems, the platform can automate optimisation across both energy generation and demand, adjusting operations continuously to reduce waste and emissions.

Rather than producing static dashboards or retrospective insights, the system actively intervenes, making decisions that previously required manual oversight or specialist engineering input.

From insights to autonomous control

According to CEO and co founder Yigit Akar, the company was built with the ambition to move beyond conventional energy analytics.

“Our aim is to decarbonise complex real estate in an intelligent, automated, and scalable way. Rather than only providing insights, our platform actively manages energy systems,” Akar said. “This funding supports continued product development and growth as we scale the business.”

This distinction is central to xWatts’ value proposition. Many energy management solutions stop at identifying inefficiencies, leaving operators to act on recommendations. xWatts instead automates these decisions, optimising assets such as HVAC systems, solar installations, and combined heat and power units in real time.

The result is improved operational oversight, lower energy bills, and measurable reductions in carbon emissions, without increasing the workload for facilities teams.

Proven impact across critical sectors

xWatts says its technology has already been deployed across healthcare, education, and manufacturing environments. These sectors are among the most energy intensive in Europe, with buildings that must balance efficiency with reliability and comfort.

In healthcare, for example, energy systems must operate continuously while meeting strict environmental and safety standards. In higher education, large and diverse estates often include ageing infrastructure alongside modern buildings, making optimisation particularly complex. Manufacturing facilities face similar challenges, with fluctuating energy demand tied closely to production schedules.

By providing a unified, automated layer of control, xWatts helps operators navigate this complexity while delivering tangible financial and environmental benefits.

Scaling across Europe

The new funding will be used to accelerate product development and support expansion in key European markets. xWatts is prioritising growth in healthcare, higher education, and industrial sectors, where the need for intelligent energy optimisation is most acute and where regulatory and cost pressures are driving faster adoption.

As Europe pushes toward stricter emissions targets and greater energy resilience, platforms capable of autonomously managing complex estates are becoming increasingly strategic. With fresh capital and growing traction, xWatts is positioning itself as a core infrastructure player in the decarbonisation of non domestic real estate.
