As enterprises race to integrate artificial intelligence into daily operations, the demand for platforms capable of connecting applications, orchestrating workflows, and managing AI agents at scale is growing rapidly. Berlin based automation startup n8n is emerging as one of the major beneficiaries of that trend after securing strategic backing from enterprise software giant SAP in a deal that has more than doubled the company’s valuation in under a year.

N8n announced that it has reached a valuation of $5.2 billion following a secondary share sale involving SAP, marking the first time the German software group has joined the startup’s cap table. The valuation represents a sharp increase from the company’s previous $2.5 billion valuation achieved less than a year ago, highlighting growing investor confidence in the future of AI driven workflow automation.

The company did not disclose the financial details of SAP’s investment, but confirmed that SAP was the only new investor participating in the secondary transaction.

Building an AI Orchestration Platform

Founded to simplify workflow automation for businesses, n8n describes itself as an “AI orchestration platform” that enables organisations to connect hundreds of applications, services, and data sources through a flexible automation system.

Its technology allows companies to automate repetitive tasks, integrate large language models, and deploy AI agents capable of handling increasingly complex business operations. Instead of relying on disconnected software tools and manual processes, users can build automated workflows that coordinate actions across multiple enterprise systems in a unified environment.

The platform has gained traction as businesses seek practical ways to operationalise artificial intelligence without rebuilding their entire technology infrastructure. By combining workflow automation with AI integrations, n8n positions itself as a bridge between enterprise software ecosystems and next generation AI capabilities.

Partnership With SAP

Alongside the investment, n8n and SAP have entered into a multi year commercial partnership that significantly expands the startup’s enterprise reach. As part of the agreement, n8n will become integrated into SAP’s AI agent platform called Joule Studio.

Joule Studio allows organisations to design, manage, and scale their own AI agents within SAP’s ecosystem. Through the partnership, developers using SAP software will be able to create more advanced AI powered workflows directly inside the platform using n8n’s visual automation canvas.

The integration is designed to eliminate the need for developers to constantly switch between multiple applications while building AI powered business processes. Instead, enterprises will be able to orchestrate workflows, connect systems, and manage AI agents from within SAP’s environment.

Jan Oberhauser described the partnership as a pivotal milestone for the company. He said SAP’s decision to invest in n8n and integrate its technology into Joule Studio reflects strong confidence in the startup’s platform and long term vision.

AI Automation Gains Enterprise Momentum

The partnership also reflects a broader shift taking place across enterprise technology as companies increasingly explore agentic AI systems capable of autonomously performing tasks, analysing information, and coordinating workflows.

Christian Klein said enterprises require AI systems grounded in reliable data, governance, and deep process knowledge to deliver secure and accurate business outcomes at scale. According to Klein, integrating n8n into Joule Studio will accelerate SAP’s ability to help customers design and scale AI agents across core business functions.

As businesses continue moving beyond experimental AI adoption toward operational deployment, workflow orchestration platforms are becoming critical infrastructure within enterprise technology stacks.

Expanding Role in Enterprise AI

N8n’s rapid valuation growth highlights the increasing importance investors and enterprise software providers are placing on AI automation infrastructure. With businesses under pressure to improve efficiency while integrating new AI capabilities, platforms capable of connecting data, applications, and AI agents are attracting significant attention across the technology sector.

By combining automation tools with enterprise AI orchestration capabilities, n8n is positioning itself as a key player in the evolving market for AI driven business operations, while its partnership with SAP provides a pathway into some of the world’s largest enterprise environments.
