From Outsourcing to Original Hits: Paparuda Studio’s €210K Bet on Moldova’s Gaming Future

Moldova’s growing ambitions in the global gaming industry are taking shape as a new generation of developers shifts from outsourcing to original game creation. At the centre of this movement is Paparuda Studio, which has raised over €210,000 in funding to develop its first internationally focused video game and establish itself as a creator of original intellectual property.

A New Chapter for Moldovan Game Development

Founded in 2026 by Victor Marchitan, Artiom Snegur, and Alex Culeva, Paparuda Studio represents a shift in Moldova’s tech ecosystem. Rather than providing outsourced services, the company is focused on building its own games and competing in the global market.

The studio is targeting the Indie and AA segments, aiming to combine creative independence with strong production capabilities. Its first commercial release is planned within the next 12 to 15 months, with distribution across international gaming platforms.

Building Social and Cooperative Gaming Experiences

Paparuda Studio’s initial projects are centred on cooperative gameplay, an increasingly popular format that encourages collaboration and social interaction among players. By focusing on co op experiences, the company aims to create engaging multiplayer environments that resonate with global audiences.

This strategic direction reflects broader trends in the gaming industry, where community driven and interactive experiences are gaining traction over purely single player formats.

Expanding Talent and Capabilities

The newly secured funding will be used to scale the company’s team significantly. Paparuda Studio plans to grow from its current team of five to between 15 and 20 specialists, including programmers, game designers, and 2D and 3D artists.

This expansion is critical for delivering high quality production and meeting the demands of international markets. By building a multidisciplinary team, the studio aims to strengthen both its creative and technical capabilities.

Targeting Global Platforms and Partnerships

Paparuda Studio is preparing to release its games on major platforms such as Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo systems. This multi platform strategy is designed to maximise reach and ensure accessibility for a broad audience.

In parallel, the company is exploring partnerships with internationally recognised publishers such as Devolver Digital and Team17. These collaborations could provide additional financing, marketing support, and distribution expertise, helping the studio scale more rapidly.

Co founder Victor Marchitan emphasised that the company’s mission goes beyond game development, aiming to build a community and contribute to the growth of a strong local industry capable of competing globally.

A Growing Ecosystem in Moldova

The rise of Paparuda Studio reflects broader developments within Moldova’s technology and creative sectors. Educational and policy initiatives are playing a key role in supporting this growth.

For example, Moldova State University has launched a dedicated bachelor’s degree programme in Game Design, focusing on skills such as programming, 3D art, and animation. This initiative is expected to help build a pipeline of talent for the industry.

Meanwhile, Moldova Innovation Technology Park provides a competitive business environment through its simplified tax regime, allowing companies to reinvest in innovation and workforce development.

Strong Growth in Tech and Creative Industries

Moldova’s IT and creative sectors have shown significant expansion in recent years. In 2025, the industry generated approximately $864 million, accounting for more than a quarter of the country’s total service exports. Over the past five years, the sector has grown more than threefold.

The IT industry also represents around 5 percent of Moldova’s total foreign direct investment stock, highlighting its importance to the national economy.

Looking Ahead

With fresh funding, an expanding team, and a clear focus on global markets, Paparuda Studio is positioning itself as a key player in Moldova’s emerging gaming industry. As the country continues to invest in talent and infrastructure, studios like Paparuda are helping to redefine its role in the global digital economy.

By creating original games and building international partnerships, the company is not only shaping its own future but also contributing to the rise of Moldova as a hub for creative and technological innovation.
