Newly launched frontier AI company Twin Prime aims to address that gap, and investors are backing its approach with fresh funding.
The company has raised $10 million in pre seed funding in a round led by Expeditions, alongside investment from American and European venture capital firms, family offices, defence company Theon, and angels associated with organisations including Palantir, Anduril, and Quorum.
Building AI for High Stakes Environments
Founded in 2025 by George Lentzas, Stephane Sezer, Drew Calcagno, and Michael Leite Garcia, the company is focused on developing AI systems purpose built for defence and security applications.
The founding team combines expertise across frontier artificial intelligence, quantitative finance, and national security, with prior experience at institutions including Google Research, Hudson River Trading, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Columbia University, the White House, the Pentagon, and multiple branches of both US and European armed forces.
Twin Prime is developing AI models capable of reasoning directly on data collected from a large number of physical world sensor systems simultaneously. The company’s technology is designed to compress the perception to decision layer in defence operations, allowing faster interpretation of incoming information and enabling real time responses to potential threats.
AI Designed for Sensor Fusion and Edge Deployment
One of the company’s central focuses is sensor fusion, a capability that combines information from multiple data sources including imaging systems, surveillance sensors, and operational feeds into unified AI driven analysis.
According to Mikolaj Firlej, many existing AI models are not specialised enough to handle the complexity of modern warfare and broader security challenges. He noted that traditional AI systems often struggle with edge deployment, sensor integration, and real time operational responsiveness.
Firlej explained that Twin Prime is building AI models specifically designed for high stakes environments where computational efficiency, rapid processing, and integration across diverse sensor systems are essential. Rather than simply retrofitting older defence systems with AI tools, the company aims to transform operational workflows from the ground up.
Partnership With Theon
Alongside the funding announcement, Twin Prime also revealed plans to form a joint venture with Theon focused on developing and deploying bespoke AI solutions powered by Twin Prime’s proprietary models.
The partnership is expected to support Theon’s broader sensor deployment ecosystem and expand its Theon Next initiative, which focuses on integrating advanced technologies into defence operations.
By combining Twin Prime’s AI infrastructure with Theon’s defence hardware and operational footprint, the companies aim to accelerate deployment of AI driven defence systems across European security markets.
