The European drugstore chain ROSSMANN is consolidating its position on the continent by the deepening of the partnership with the global retail technology specialist Diebold Nixdorf, a collaboration, which is now the power source of the retailer’s entry into Switzerland and the formation of its wider European growth strategy.
Diebold Nixdorf has been instrumental in ROSSMANN’s new stores in Switzerland by providing a full range of managed services and retail technology solutions, including self-service checkout machines, point-of-sale (PoS) terminals, and a cloud service portal for remote monitoring and maintenance. This installation is an operational model that the two companies initially designed for Germany, where their partnership started in 2021. Since then, Diebold Nixdorf has been installing and upgrading the equipment in more than 2,350 ROSSMANN stores across Germany, taking care of the PoS infrastructure, self-service checkouts, software, and stock hardware.
The cooperation of ROSSMANN’s entire German hardware environment was recently extended, which allowed the work done at home to be the blueprint now in use in Switzerland. The two partners believe that this model is designed to be used again when ROSSMANN moves to other European countries, their technology rollout will be faster, smoother and more cost-effective in the coming years. As the long-term plan, the retailer intends to link more devices to the eServices platform during the next two years, such as back-office systems, which are being changed with Diebold Nixdorf’s DN Series BEETLE M2110 PoS units.
For ROSSMANN, a strong, scalable, and efficient digital system is the need as the company is spreading its wings across different countries. “The IT infrastructure of our company has to be dynamic in its development and flawless in its operation,” said Alexander Blanckarts, Head of IT Operations at ROSSMANN. “To reach this goal, we utilize the knowledge and technology of Diebold Nixdorf, the reliable partner who is always at our side. The partnership allows us to provide our customers and employees with high-quality, state-of-the-art and safe solutions on a continuous basis.”
Diebold Nixdorf explains that the intensified partnership is a demonstration of the success of their days’ work with each other. “The question of expanding our partnerships with ROSSMANN is a great pleasure for us,” said Leyla Feghhi, Head of Retail Sales for the DACH region. “By really integrating our solutions and services we are creating a true win situation, where the user end experience led to higher sales and lower total cost of ownership are optimized.”
As a result of the partnership, the ROSSMANN European growth plan should be positively affected. Technology in stores allows the retailer to standardize operations easily across new markets, lower maintenance costs, safe the time for store openings, and keep customer experience consistent. Advanced digital tools – for example, self-checkout, integrated back-office systems, and real-time monitoring – will also make ROSSMANN competitive in technically advanced markets of Western and Central Europe. As the company has a scalable IT framework ready, it can speed up its expansion and be at the forefront of retail innovation when it’s rapidly reshaping the sector.
This change is happening while Europe is continuing to focus on retail tech which was talked about in detail during the 2025 RTIH Innovation Awards in London – where a number of companies including VoCoVo, Everseen, Sensei, Gander, Olio, and Zebra Technologies were recognised for contributions to both physical and digital retail environments. In the same way as these innovators, the ROSSMANN and Diebold Nixdorf’s partnership is a reflection of the overall trend towards interconnected, efficient, and future-ready retail systems.
As ROSSMANN is extending its European footprint, the intensified partnership is a strong springboard for the company’s next chapter of growth, which merges operational stability with the flexibility required for a quickly changing retail environment.
