The workplace software market is entering a new era as artificial intelligence moves beyond productivity tools and becomes embedded in the core operations of businesses. Companies are increasingly looking for ways to automate repetitive tasks, streamline decision making, and manage growing operational complexity through intelligent systems. Against this backdrop, Barcelona based Factorial is making a major bet on AI driven business operations, backed by one of the largest funding rounds in the European software sector this year.
The workforce management software company has raised $150 million in Series D funding at a valuation of $2.5 billion. The round was led by General Catalyst, with participation from existing investors including Atomico and Four Rivers.
In addition to the equity investment, General Catalyst has committed up to $540 million through its Customer Value Fund, bringing the total capital available to Factorial to more than $700 million.
The funding will support product innovation, international expansion, and the continued development of the company’s AI powered workforce platform.
A Decade of Growth
Founded in 2016, Factorial has spent the last decade building software designed to simplify business operations for small and medium sized enterprises.
The platform supports a wide range of functions across human resources, finance, and information technology, helping businesses centralise processes that are often managed through multiple disconnected systems.
Today, the company serves more than 16,000 businesses across over 90 countries, making it one of Europe’s fastest growing workforce software providers.
Its success has been driven by a focus on creating a unified operational platform capable of supporting the daily needs of modern organisations.
Transitioning to an AI First Model
The latest investment comes during a significant strategic shift for the company.
According to co founder and CEO Jordi Romero, Factorial is moving beyond its origins as a traditional software as a service provider and transforming into an AI first company.
The business has redesigned its product architecture and operational model around artificial intelligence, integrating AI agents directly into customer workflows.
Romero said the company has fundamentally reimagined how organisations manage work by embedding intelligent agents throughout operational processes.
This transformation is intended to help businesses automate routine activities while improving efficiency and decision making.
Introducing Factorial One
At the centre of the company’s AI strategy is Factorial One, a unified workspace designed to bring together organisational and employee facing AI agents.
The platform aims to help businesses manage policies, workflows, approvals, and operational tasks across HR, finance, and IT functions through a single environment.
Rather than requiring employees to navigate multiple software tools, Factorial One is designed to act as a central operational hub where AI agents can assist with day to day activities and administrative responsibilities.
The company believes this approach will become increasingly important as organisations seek to scale operations without significantly increasing headcount.
Germany Becomes a Strategic Priority
A major portion of the newly raised capital will be invested in Germany, which Factorial has identified as one of its most important growth markets.
The company plans to open a new office in Munich and significantly expand hiring across sales, customer success, product development, engineering, and marketing teams.
Beyond Germany, Factorial also intends to strengthen its presence across France, Italy, and Portugal while continuing to grow its international workforce.
Building the Future of Business Operations
General Catalyst’s decision to make its first direct equity investment in Factorial follows previous collaboration through its Customer Value Fund.
The investor cited the company’s strong operational execution, product innovation, and growth trajectory as key reasons for deepening the partnership.
As businesses increasingly embrace AI driven workflows, Factorial is positioning itself at the forefront of a broader transformation in enterprise software. With fresh capital, a growing customer base, and an ambitious AI strategy, the company is aiming to redefine how organisations manage work in the years ahead.
