For millions of European small and medium sized businesses, managing finances still means moving between banks, accountants, tax advisers, invoices and spreadsheets. Amsterdam based financial technology company Neno is betting that artificial intelligence can bring those fragmented processes into a single system, raising €6.6 million in seed funding to expand its AI native financial services platform and take its model into more European markets.
Fresh Capital for AI Driven Finance
The seed round was led by New York based early stage venture fund AlleyCorp, with participation from Motive Partners, Firstminute Capital and a group of angel investors. The investor group includes executives and founders associated with Hugging Face, Mollie, Juni, Deel, Miro, Coinbase, PayPal and Navro.
Neno launched in the first quarter of 2026 and has already grown to almost 200 customers. The company provides accounting, tax and financial administration services through a single AI powered platform aimed at small and medium sized businesses.
The new funding will allow Neno to continue developing its technology, expand its accounting and tax operations and prepare for entry into additional European markets.
Tackling Europe’s Accounting Gap
Neno is targeting a large and fragmented financial services market. More than half of Europe’s 26 million SMEs outsource accounting, payroll and tax responsibilities to professional service providers, creating an industry estimated by the company to be worth around €200 billion annually.
At the same time, businesses increasingly have financial information spread across separate systems. Banking transactions, corporate cards, invoices, payments, accounting records and tax information can all sit in different workflows.
Neno believes this fragmentation makes it difficult for business owners and accountants to obtain a complete picture of a company’s financial position. A shortage of accounting professionals is also putting pressure on traditional service providers.
An Agentic General Ledger
At the centre of Neno’s platform is what the company calls a real time agentic general ledger, or AGL.
The system brings together information from business bank accounts, corporate cards, bill payments and receivables into a single system of record. Neno’s accountants can then work with this contextualised financial information while AI handles parts of the underlying administrative workload.
The technology is designed to automate and accelerate processes including financial reconciliation and VAT preparation. Neno says these tasks can be completed up to five times faster using its platform.
For customers, the company says the system saves an average of eight hours of administrative work every month and can reduce annual accounting costs by approximately 20 per cent.
AI Designed to Support Accountants
Neno is not positioning its technology as a replacement for accountants. Instead, the company wants AI to increase the number of businesses an accountant can support while allowing professionals to spend more time on higher value advisory work.
Founder and CEO Nick Knuppe said the company’s goal is to give business owners a largely completed financial workflow rather than requiring them to coordinate separately with banks, bookkeepers and tax advisers.
According to Knuppe, Neno’s infrastructure could enable an individual accountant to manage hundreds of customers compared with the roughly 30 customers traditionally handled, while maintaining the quality of advisory services.
Building Ambient AI
Part of the new capital will go towards launching Neno Labs, a research and development initiative focused on what the company describes as Ambient AI.
The initiative will explore ways for AI to operate more naturally in the background of financial workflows, handling routine processes without requiring constant intervention from business owners.
Neno will also use the funding to expand its accounting, tax services and go to market teams. Beyond strengthening its position in its existing market, the company is preparing for expansion into additional European countries in 2027.
With nearly 200 customers only months after launch, Neno is now aiming to turn its AI native approach into a broader financial infrastructure for Europe’s SME sector.
