Munich based energytech startup nuuEnergy has raised €4.3 million in seed funding to scale its regionally focused heat pump installation model, aiming to tackle one of the biggest bottlenecks in Europe’s heating transition: skilled labour and inefficient installation processes. The round was led by amberra, the corporate venturing studio of the Cooperative Financial Network Volksbanken Raiffeisenbanken, and joined by EnjoyVenture alongside existing investors HTGF, Vireo Ventures, better ventures, and Bynd Venture Capital.
As Europe accelerates efforts to decarbonise buildings, heat pumps are widely seen as a cornerstone technology. Yet despite rising demand, the sector continues to struggle with fragmented operations, labour shortages, and inconsistent customer experiences. nuuEnergy believes the solution lies not only in technology, but in rethinking how installation businesses are built and operated at a local level.
A growing market held back by execution challenges
Heat pump adoption in Germany has expanded rapidly in recent years, even as broader energy markets fluctuated. Around 229,000 units were installed in 2024, and industry forecasts suggest annual installations could reach as many as 500,000 by 2030. Heat pumps can substantially reduce CO₂ emissions from buildings, which remain one of the largest sources of emissions across Europe.
However, growth has been uneven. A shortage of skilled installers, long waiting times, and inefficient planning processes have slowed deployment. Many customers struggle to navigate the journey from system selection to installation and long term servicing, while traditional craft businesses often lack the digital tools and capacity to scale efficiently.
Building regional heat pump specialists
Founded in late 2023, nuuEnergy is taking a different approach by building regional specialist installation businesses, referred to internally as hubs. Each hub operates locally, combining digital planning tools with on site technical expertise to deliver customised heat pump solutions tailored to individual buildings.
The company generates revenue through system planning, installation, and ongoing maintenance contracts, complemented by additional services such as water treatment systems and energy consulting. By owning the full lifecycle of the installation, nuuEnergy aims to improve quality, reduce delays, and create long term customer relationships.
Rather than replacing traditional craft businesses, nuuEnergy positions itself between established local installers and purely digital installation platforms. Its model focuses on strengthening local presence while using software and structured workflows to improve efficiency and consistency.
Attracting skilled workers through structure and technology
A core pillar of nuuEnergy’s strategy is workforce attraction and retention. The company invests in modern software tools, clear processes, and structured working conditions to make heat pump installation roles more attractive to skilled tradespeople.
Digitised processes support detailed system planning before teams arrive on site, reducing uncertainty and rework during installation. On site system planners ensure that each project is adapted to the specific technical requirements of the building, helping to raise installation quality while increasing throughput.
Co founder Tobias Klug said customers increasingly want a trusted local partner that guides them through the entire process, from planning to installation and long term service. He added that the new investor group brings not only capital but also strategic expertise, including access to cooperative banks that can offer tailored financing solutions for local heating transition projects.
Co founder Julia Rafschneider noted that the funding reinforces nuuEnergy’s regional and quality focused approach, while supporting the development of a motivated and skilled workforce.
Scaling the model across regions
The newly raised capital will be used to expand nuuEnergy’s regional hubs and further digitise installation and planning processes. By combining local execution with scalable operational infrastructure, the company aims to play a meaningful role in accelerating the heat pump rollout needed to meet climate targets.
As Europe continues its shift away from fossil fuel heating, nuuEnergy is betting that solving the operational side of the transition will be just as important as the technology itself.
