The race to commercialise space technology is creating opportunities for startups developing everything from satellite navigation systems to advanced defence solutions. However, turning promising scientific innovations into globally competitive businesses requires more than technical expertise. Addressing this challenge, Seraphim has launched the Seraphim Academy, a selective programme offering $150,000 in investment alongside tailored support to help early stage SpaceTech founders raise capital, attract customers and expand into international markets.
A New Platform for SpaceTech Founders
Founded in 2016, UK based Seraphim has established itself as a specialist investor in the global SpaceTech industry. Its investment platform spans early stage funding, venture capital, growth stage investments and public markets, allowing it to support businesses throughout their development.
The company manages approximately $1 billion in assets across its investment platform and has backed more than 150 companies across 33 countries. Its portfolio includes 11 companies that have achieved unicorn status and six businesses that have completed initial public offerings.
Through the Academy, Seraphim aims to identify promising companies at an early stage and help them navigate the challenges of commercialisation, fundraising and international expansion.
$150,000 Investment and Year Long Support
Selected startups will receive $150,000 in investment through two funding stages. The core programme is expected to take four to six months, while participating founders can access tailored support for up to 12 months.
Rather than following a uniform accelerator model, the Academy will assess companies on a rolling basis and adapt its assistance to their individual commercial priorities, funding requirements and growth ambitions.
The programme will focus on three key areas: fundraising, scaling and operational development. This approach is designed to help founders strengthen their business propositions, demonstrate commercial potential and establish relationships with investors and prospective customers.
Access to Investors and Industry Leaders
A major component of the Academy is its fundraising network. Participating companies will receive guidance from Seraphim’s specialist team to improve investment presentations, prepare professional fundraising materials and connect with more than 800 co investors across early stage, late stage and public markets.
Founders will also receive support with sales, business development and international expansion, particularly in the space and defence sectors.
Through its Prime in Residence programme, the Academy will connect startups with experienced SpaceTech entrepreneurs and major industry participants. These relationships are intended to help founders understand customer requirements, identify commercial opportunities and develop valuable industry partnerships.
Additional opportunities include introductions to investors and corporate partners across the UK, Europe and the United States, access to international SpaceTech events and participation in investment readiness initiatives involving Space Florida.
Support will continue beyond the formal programme, giving founders access to Seraphim’s wider network as they pursue future funding rounds and commercial opportunities.
Xona Provides a Blueprint for Success
The Academy builds on Seraphim’s experience supporting companies through its previous accelerator programme. One example is Xona Space Systems, which is developing a commercial satellite navigation constellation in low Earth orbit.
Xona joined Seraphim’s accelerator in 2019. Seraphim subsequently led its early funding rounds and continued supporting the business as it expanded. The company has since raised $250 million in a Series D round at a reported valuation of $2.45 billion, just seven months after securing $170 million in Series C funding.
Seraphim hopes to replicate this long term approach with the Academy, helping promising startups progress from early technical development towards international leadership.
Ambitious Plans for the Next Decade
Seraphim aims to support up to 15 companies annually through the Academy over the next decade and beyond. Its broader accelerator network has already helped participating companies collectively raise more than $1.7 billion.
Alexander Holt, Managing Director at Seraphim Space, said technologies once considered decades away are becoming commercial realities. He explained that the Academy would help early stage founders turn technical potential into businesses with customers and international reach, while building relationships that continue beyond the programme.
Applications are now open to pre seed and seed stage SpaceTech companies developing differentiated technologies for global markets. Through its combination of investment, specialist guidance and international connections, Seraphim is positioning the Academy as a launchpad for the next generation of space technology businesses.
