Access to specialist healthcare remains one of the biggest challenges facing modern health systems. Patients often travel long distances, face lengthy waiting times, or struggle to access specialist treatment due to workforce shortages and limited local infrastructure. As healthcare providers search for ways to deliver advanced care beyond major hospitals and urban centres, technology is increasingly emerging as a critical enabler. UK healthtech company 01Health is aiming to solve this challenge by helping local clinics provide specialist services closer to where patients live, and the company has now secured fresh funding to accelerate its mission.
The London based startup has raised $15 million in a Series A funding round led by Gresham House Ventures. Existing investors Balderton Capital, Eka Ventures, and Wavemaker360 also participated in the round, alongside a group of angel investors that includes Blockchain.com co founder Nicolas Cary.
The funding will support the expansion of the company’s healthcare platform across the United Kingdom and help drive its entry into the United States healthcare market.
Building a New Model for Specialist Care
Founded in 2022 by former NHS doctor Dr Sonia Szamocki, 01Health was created to address the structural barriers that often prevent patients from accessing specialist healthcare services.
Many specialist treatments remain concentrated within hospitals and large healthcare centres, creating capacity challenges and limiting access for patients living outside major urban areas.
01Health believes these services can be delivered more effectively through local clinics when supported by the right technology, clinical oversight, and operational infrastructure.
The company has developed a platform designed to make this possible, enabling healthcare providers to offer specialist services while maintaining consistency, quality, and clinical governance.
Technology at the Core
The 01Health platform combines several essential components into a single system.
It integrates specialist oversight, clinical protocols, patient communication tools, operational workflows, and AI powered patient acquisition capabilities.
By bringing these functions together, the platform helps local providers deliver specialist care that traditionally required larger healthcare institutions.
The system is designed to support healthcare professionals throughout the patient journey while ensuring treatments remain aligned with established clinical standards.
According to the company, this approach allows specialist expertise to be distributed more efficiently across a wider network of providers.
Early Success in Dentistry
Before launching the platform more broadly, 01Health first applied its technology within its own healthcare businesses.
One of the most notable examples is 32Co, the company’s orthodontics platform, which has built a nationwide network of providers delivering specialist orthodontic treatment throughout the UK.
Another application is Aerox Health, which focuses on dental sleep medicine services.
These businesses served as practical testing grounds for the company’s technology, helping refine the platform and demonstrate its ability to support specialist care delivery at scale.
The success of these early implementations has provided the foundation for broader commercial expansion.
Expanding Beyond Dental Care
Although dentistry was the company’s initial focus, 01Health has developed its platform with wider healthcare applications in mind.
The technology is designed to support a range of specialist medical services, and trials are already underway across additional clinical disciplines.
This flexibility creates opportunities for healthcare providers to expand access to specialist care across multiple treatment areas without requiring significant investments in new infrastructure.
The company believes this model can help address some of the most pressing challenges facing healthcare systems, including clinician shortages and growing patient demand.
Scaling Across the UK and US
The newly secured funding will support the commercial launch of the 01Health platform as a standalone product.
For the first time, practices, clinic groups, and dental service organisations will be able to license and deploy the technology directly within their own operations.
Alongside the UK rollout, the company plans to accelerate expansion into the United States, where access to specialist healthcare remains a significant challenge in many regions.
As healthcare systems continue to seek more efficient ways of delivering high quality care, 01Health is positioning itself as a technology partner capable of bringing specialist expertise closer to patients. By combining clinical oversight with digital infrastructure and AI powered tools, the company aims to help local providers deliver advanced healthcare services while improving accessibility, consistency, and patient outcomes.
