WorkFlex Raises €37M to Automate Cross Border Compliance

Dutch startup WorkFlex is aiming to bring structure and automation to this problem, and has now secured €37 million in funding to expand its compliance technology platform.

Fresh capital to scale compliance infrastructure

The €37 million investment round was led by Spectrum Equity and marks a significant step forward for WorkFlex as it continues to build its position in the workforce mobility space. The company plans to use the funding to accelerate its expansion across Europe, enhance its product capabilities, and extend into adjacent areas of mobility risk management.

The investment reflects growing demand for solutions that can handle the increasing complexity of cross border work, particularly as companies adopt more flexible and international operating models.

Rising complexity in global mobility

The number of cross border work events has increased rapidly in recent years, driven by globalisation, remote work trends, and the need for international collaboration. In Europe alone, millions of business trips take place each year, each potentially creating compliance obligations for employers.

These obligations can include tax liabilities, social security requirements, visa regulations, and labour law compliance. Managing these processes manually is often inefficient and prone to errors, especially when dealing with multiple jurisdictions.

WorkFlex was founded in 2022 to address this challenge by providing a centralised platform that automates compliance workflows for international business travel and workforce mobility.

Automating compliance through technology

At the core of WorkFlex’s offering is its compliance risk engine, which enables organisations to manage cross border obligations through automated processes. The platform replaces fragmented workflows that typically rely on spreadsheets, emails, and external advisors.

By using structured decision logic, the system evaluates compliance requirements for each trip or assignment and generates the necessary documentation. This includes handling processes such as A1 certificates, Certificates of Coverage, Posted Worker Directive notifications, visa requirements, and tax exposure assessments.

The platform also provides audit ready documentation, helping companies maintain transparency and demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.

Scaling rapidly across markets

Since its launch, WorkFlex has experienced strong growth. The platform now processes more than 100,000 cross border trips annually, covering over 1,000 country combinations. This rapid expansion highlights both the scale of the problem and the demand for automated solutions.

The company’s growth reflects a broader shift toward technology driven compliance, as organisations seek more efficient ways to manage regulatory obligations across multiple jurisdictions.

Enabling consistency and control

One of the key challenges in compliance management is ensuring that decisions are consistent, traceable, and defensible. Different teams and regions often interpret regulations differently, leading to inconsistencies and increased risk.
