UK smart home startup Tewke secures £1.5M to expand AI driven energy platform

London based Tewke, a company building intelligent home automation technology with a strong focus on energy optimisation, has closed its second funding round, raising £1.5 million to accelerate growth and product development. The investment brings together a mix of venture firms and strategic backers, including JamJar Investments, Cur8 Capital, Energy Mix Ventures, Project Ventures, and angel investor Vlad Yatsenko, co founder and CTO of Revolut.

The funding arrives as households across the UK face rising energy costs, growing complexity around time of use tariffs, and increasing pressure to reduce emissions without sacrificing comfort. Tewke is positioning itself at the intersection of these challenges, offering a smart home system designed to be simple to install, intuitive to use, and capable of optimising energy use automatically.

A smart home system built for real homes

Founded in 2020 by Piers Daniell and Rowan Dixon, Tewke develops smart home technology that prioritises accessibility and ease of deployment. Its flagship product, Tap, is a smart control system designed and engineered entirely in the UK. Unlike many smart home solutions that require rewiring or professional installation, Tap can be installed in minutes and works in homes without a neutral wire, making it compatible with more than 90 percent of UK housing stock.

Tap replaces conventional light switches and goes beyond basic lighting control. Through its design, Tewke aims to remove the friction that has historically limited the adoption of smart home technology, particularly in older properties and rental homes where invasive installation is not an option.

Energy optimisation through contextual intelligence

At the core of Tewke’s offering is its ambition to help households actively manage and optimise their energy consumption. Tap is designed to support users in shifting electricity usage to cheaper and cleaner periods of the day, aligning household behaviour with dynamic tariffs and grid conditions.

This functionality is powered by Tewke OS, the company’s proprietary operating system, developed entirely in house. The platform combines patented hardware, firmware, and software to create a foundation for AI driven energy management that adapts to how people actually live in their homes.

Introducing TewkeAI

In 2025, the company expanded its platform with the introduction of TewkeAI, developed alongside Google. This contextual AI framework analyses data from Tap’s nine onboard sensors, including movement, air quality, temperature, and behavioural patterns, to build a deeper understanding of how each home operates.

Rather than relying on rigid rules or manual schedules, TewkeAI is designed to respond dynamically to real world conditions. This allows the system to balance comfort, cost savings, and energy efficiency automatically, while reducing the need for constant user input.

Scaling engineering and market reach

According to co founder and CEO Piers Daniell, the company’s mission goes beyond energy savings alone, focusing on creating homes that are more intelligent, sustainable, and centred around the needs of occupants. Co founder Rowan Dixon added that building advanced electronics and AI systems in the UK has been technically demanding, but seeing customers install Tap quickly and benefit immediately has validated the approach.

The new funding will be used to support go to market execution and significantly expand Tewke’s engineering team. A key focus will be the development of neuro symbolic AI systems that combine machine learning with structured reasoning, further improving residential energy performance.

Alongside venture investment, Tewke’s growth is also supported by non equity funding from Innovate UK, reinforcing its position as a UK based hardware and AI innovator addressing one of the most pressing challenges in the energy transition.
