As voice interfaces become increasingly central to digital workflows, the limitations of current speech recognition systems are becoming more apparent, particularly outside English language environments. Amsterdam based startup Reson8 is tackling this challenge by building highly adaptable speech recognition technology, and has now raised €5 million in pre seed funding to advance its platform.
The round was led by Balderton Capital, with participation from NP Hard. The funding will support the company’s efforts to expand its infrastructure across Europe, further develop its models, and grow its team as it scales its technology for enterprise use cases.
Rethinking speech recognition for real world use
Automatic speech recognition systems have made significant progress in recent years, but their performance often drops when dealing with European languages, regional dialects, or specialised terminology. Many existing solutions rely on general purpose models trained primarily on English data, which limits their effectiveness in diverse linguistic and professional contexts.
Reson8 is taking a different approach by focusing on hyper customised speech recognition. Instead of using a single generic model, the company develops systems that can adapt in real time to the context of a conversation. This includes incorporating data from documents, websites, and calendars to improve accuracy and relevance.
By tailoring recognition to specific scenarios, the platform aims to deliver more precise transcription and better performance in environments where accuracy is critical.
A modular and adaptive architecture
At the core of Reson8’s technology is a system built around lightweight and modular adapters. These components allow the speech recognition model to adjust dynamically without increasing latency, enabling real time performance even as it adapts to new contexts.
This architecture is designed to handle complex and specialised language use, such as industry specific terminology in healthcare, legal, or customer support settings. In these environments, even small transcription errors can lead to misunderstandings or operational inefficiencies.
By focusing on acoustic precision and contextual awareness, Reson8 aims to reduce these errors and improve the reliability of speech driven applications.
Building European speech infrastructure
Another key aspect of Reson8’s strategy is its focus on European infrastructure. Many existing speech recognition providers rely on systems hosted outside Europe, raising concerns around data privacy, residency, and regulatory compliance.
Reson8 is building and operating its own infrastructure within Europe, giving customers greater control over where their data is processed and stored. This approach aligns with increasing demand for localised and compliant technology solutions, particularly in regulated industries.
At launch, the platform is expected to support more than 20 European languages, reflecting the company’s ambition to serve a broad and diverse user base across the region.
Founding team and vision
Reson8 was founded by Thomas Kluiters, Raoul Ritter, and Jarno Verhagen, who bring experience in high performance systems, artificial intelligence, and speech technology. The team is focused on developing models that reflect how language is actually used in real world settings, rather than relying solely on standardised training data.
The company’s vision is to create speech recognition systems that are not only accurate but also adaptable to the specific needs of different industries and users. By combining technical innovation with a focus on practical applications, Reson8 aims to position itself as a key player in the evolving speech technology landscape.
Expanding capabilities and reach
The newly raised funding will enable Reson8 to continue building its technology stack, including improvements to its models and inference systems. The company also plans to expand its infrastructure footprint across Europe to support growing demand.
In addition, Reson8 will invest in team growth as it moves from early development toward broader deployment. With applications spanning multiple industries, the platform is designed to support a wide range of use cases where accurate and context aware speech recognition is essential.
As businesses increasingly rely on voice driven interfaces and communication tools, the need for more precise and adaptable speech technology continues to grow. Reson8’s approach highlights a shift toward specialised and localised solutions, positioning the company to address gaps left by existing systems while supporting the next generation of voice enabled applications.
