Beyond Invoices and Spreadsheets: Kabilio Lands €10M for AI Powered Accounting

Spanish fintech startup Kabilio has raised €10 million in a new funding round as it looks to change how accounting firms and small businesses manage financial administration. The Barcelona based company is developing an artificial intelligence platform that goes beyond processing invoices, aiming to automate entire accounting workflows through AI agents that can collect documents, reconcile transactions and communicate with clients.

The round was led by Picus Capital and Visionaries, with participation from CDTI, Spain’s public agency for technological innovation. Both lead investors previously backed Kabilio’s €4 million pre seed round. The latest investment brings the company’s total funding since launch to €14 million.

Tackling the Paperwork Behind Accounting

Across Spain and other European markets, small and medium sized businesses frequently rely on external accounting firms for bookkeeping, tax documentation and financial reporting. These firms handle large volumes of invoices, receipts, bank statements and other financial records, much of which still requires manual processing.

Kabilio was founded by Jose Ojeda and Álex Valls to reduce this administrative burden. Its platform uses AI to interpret invoices, suggest accounting entries, match bank transactions and prepare reconciliations. Accountants can then review and approve the proposed work instead of entering information manually.

The system also records accounting rules and professional decisions as structured data, creating a foundation for automating more complex tasks over time.

According to Kabilio, its technology can reduce the time spent on bookkeeping and reconciliation by approximately 60 per cent.

From AI Assistance to an Accounting Agent

The company’s next development phase involves introducing an AI accounting agent designed to handle complete workflows rather than individual administrative tasks.

The agent can retrieve invoices and bank statements from client emails, reconcile transactions, validate accounting entries and identify missing documents. It can also contact clients through email and WhatsApp to request additional information.

Accountants can assign tasks using everyday language and decide how much independence the agent receives. This allows firms to maintain professional oversight while gradually transferring repetitive responsibilities to AI.

Several accounting firms are already testing the technology. The objective is to create an AI assistant capable of completing routine work from beginning to end, while leaving important financial decisions and approvals with qualified professionals.

Connecting Accountants With Their Clients

Kabilio has also introduced Kabilio Empresas, a platform designed to bring accounting firms and their small business clients into a shared digital environment.

Businesses can issue invoices, connect their bank accounts and monitor cash flow, while their accounting firms receive financial information as it becomes available. This reduces the need for repeated document exchanges and allows accountants to work with more current financial records.

Fiscalidad Inteligente and Alemany Assessors are among the firms already using the platform across a significant part of their client portfolios.

In the future, Kabilio plans to extend its AI agent directly to small business users. Potential tasks include issuing invoices, following up on overdue payments, requesting missing receipts and answering routine accounting and tax questions.

Growing Across Spain

Kabilio currently works with nearly 500 accounting firms, compared with approximately 100 a year earlier. Its customers include Adlanter, Solfico and Gemap, with the latter two belonging to the iusTime group.

The company has expanded its workforce to 80 employees, with more than half working in product development and engineering.

Funding the Next Stage of Automation

The €10 million investment will support the rollout of the AI accounting agent, further automation of financial workflows and expansion of the shared platform for businesses and accounting professionals.

Kabilio’s broader ambition is to transform accounting from a document heavy, repetitive process into a more connected and continuously updated service. By combining structured financial data with AI driven automation, the company wants to give accountants more time for financial analysis and business advice while making everyday administration easier for smaller businesses.
