From Warehouse Picking to Returns: Sereact’s AI Platform Wins Zalando’s Confidence

Warehouses are rapidly evolving from highly manual environments into intelligent, automated operations powered by artificial intelligence. As global e commerce continues to grow and labour shortages place increasing pressure on supply chains, businesses are looking for robotic systems capable of handling complex physical tasks with greater speed, accuracy, and consistency. While automation has been part of logistics for years, recent advances in AI have enabled robots to understand and interact with the physical world in far more sophisticated ways. German robotics company Sereact is among the companies leading this transformation, and it has now strengthened its position with fresh strategic investment from one of Europe’s largest online retailers.

Sereact has announced that Zalando has joined its ongoing Series B financing round as a strategic investor, increasing the total size of the round to $116 million.

The financing round was originally led by Headline, with participation from Bullhound Capital, Daphni, Felix Capital, Air Street Capital, Creandum, and Point Nine. With Zalando’s investment, Sereact has now raised more than $145 million since its founding in 2021.

The additional capital will accelerate international expansion while supporting the continued development of the company’s next generation robotics platform.

Building AI for Physical Work

Headquartered in Stuttgart, Sereact develops physical AI systems that enable robots to perform complex warehouse and manufacturing tasks.

Its Cortex platform acts as a universal intelligence layer capable of operating across multiple robotic systems, including single arm picking stations, dual arm return processing systems, humanoid robots, and advanced three dimensional perception solutions.

Rather than building robots for a single task, the company is creating a shared AI platform that allows robotic intelligence to improve continuously across different applications and hardware configurations.

This flexible architecture enables customers to automate increasingly complex warehouse operations.

Transforming Warehouse Returns

Zalando’s investment reflects growing interest in automating one of e commerce’s most challenging operational processes.

Fashion retailers process exceptionally high volumes of returns, with garments requiring inspection, unpacking, folding, sorting, and reintegration into inventory before resale.

Many of these activities remain highly manual despite advances in warehouse automation.

Sereact has developed a dual arm robotic solution capable of opening packages, removing returned items, folding garments, and processing returns with minimal human intervention.

The company believes this technology can significantly reduce operational costs while addressing labour shortages affecting logistics operations across Europe.

Learning Through Real World Experience

One of Sereact’s greatest competitive advantages comes from the large amount of operational data collected through customer deployments.

More than 200 robotic systems are currently operating across Europe, collectively completing over one billion successful production picks.

Every interaction contributes additional training data that strengthens the Cortex platform.

Unlike AI models trained primarily in simulation, Sereact’s technology continuously improves using real world warehouse environments.

The company believes this growing data ecosystem enables its robotics platform to become increasingly capable as deployments expand.

The Next Generation of Robotics Intelligence

The new funding will support continued development of Cortex 2.0, the next evolution of Sereact’s physical AI platform.

Rather than reacting only after detecting objects, the upcoming system introduces predictive planning capabilities that allow robots to evaluate multiple action sequences before moving.

By internally simulating different outcomes, the platform can estimate the safest and most efficient approach for completing a task.

This planning based intelligence represents an important step toward robots capable of understanding complex physical environments with greater reliability.

The company believes these capabilities will enable automation across increasingly sophisticated industrial applications.

Expanding Globally

Alongside continued product development, Sereact is accelerating international growth.

The company recently established its first office in Boston as part of its expansion into North America, a strategic market for warehouse automation.

Looking ahead, Sereact plans to deploy additional robotic systems while extending Cortex into new use cases beyond warehouse picking and returns processing.

Its long term vision is to build a general robotics intelligence platform capable of operating across a wide variety of industries and robotic form factors.

With growing customer adoption, strong strategic backing from Zalando, and one of Europe’s largest datasets for physical AI, Sereact is positioning itself to play a leading role in the future of intelligent warehouse automation.
