Beyond Gmail: Scape Is Redefining How Professionals Manage Email

Email remains one of the world’s most widely used workplace tools, yet its core experience has changed very little despite dramatic advances in artificial intelligence. Professionals still spend hours every day searching old conversations, switching between multiple applications, drafting replies, managing attachments, and tracking ongoing discussions. As AI becomes increasingly capable of understanding context and automating complex workflows, a new generation of startups is rethinking how email should function. Swedish startup Scape believes the inbox should actively complete work instead of simply organising messages, and the company has now emerged from stealth with fresh funding to bring its AI powered email platform to a wider audience.

Scape has announced $3.2 million in funding from Y Combinator, General Catalyst, FundersClub, and a group of prominent angel investors from across the technology industry.

The investment will support product development, team expansion, and the continued rollout of the company’s intelligent email platform.

The company has also officially launched its product for early access following a period of development in stealth.

Building an AI First Inbox

Scape was founded by Melvin Hagberg during Y Combinator’s Summer 2024 programme.

Originally developed as a customer support solution, the company evolved after recognising that the same artificial intelligence capabilities could solve broader productivity challenges faced by everyday email users.

Elis Hodzic later joined the company as co founder after initially supporting the business as an investor.

Today, Scape is focused on transforming email into an intelligent workspace where routine administrative tasks are handled automatically through artificial intelligence.

Turning Email Into Action

Unlike conventional email platforms that simply organise incoming messages, Scape has been designed to prepare work before users even open a conversation.

When an email thread is selected, the platform automatically generates response drafts based on previous conversations, meeting notes, and available context.

It can also create or edit attachments required for a response, reducing the need for users to switch between multiple software applications.

The platform continuously learns from activity across the inbox while incorporating information gathered through its integrated meeting note system.

This enables artificial intelligence to understand ongoing projects and provide increasingly accurate assistance over time.

Smarter Prioritisation

Scape also introduces a redesigned inbox focused on helping professionals concentrate on work requiring immediate attention.

Instead of presenting every incoming message equally, the platform organises emails into intelligent categories such as customers, recruitment, and other priority areas.

Lower priority notifications, newsletters, and automated messages remain hidden by default, allowing users to focus on more valuable work.

The company believes this approach reduces digital overload while enabling professionals to manage communications more efficiently.

By combining intelligent organisation with proactive assistance, Scape aims to transform email from a passive communication tool into an active productivity platform.

Expanding the Platform

The newly secured funding will help Scape continue developing its artificial intelligence capabilities while expanding its engineering and product teams.

The company currently operates from Stockholm with a small multidisciplinary team.

As adoption grows, additional investment will support continued platform improvements alongside broader international expansion.

Scape is currently available through an early access programme as it prepares for wider commercial deployment.

Shaping the Future of Workplace Productivity

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how professionals manage everyday work across communication, collaboration, and administration.

Rather than adding isolated AI assistants to existing software, companies are increasingly redesigning familiar workplace tools around intelligent automation.

Scape believes email remains one of the most important opportunities for this transformation because millions of professionals continue relying on it as the centre of daily business activity.

With fresh funding, a growing team, and an AI first product strategy, Scape is positioning itself to redefine how professionals interact with email. By combining contextual intelligence, workflow automation, and proactive task completion within a familiar interface, the company aims to help users spend less time managing communication and more time focusing on meaningful work.
