Industrial waste is becoming an increasingly data rich resource, but turning that information into safer and more efficient operations remains a challenge for many facilities. Swiss industrial AI company Jaipur Robotics is looking to change that by using computer vision and automation to help waste to energy plants understand what is moving through their systems and respond to it in real time.
The Manno, Switzerland based company has raised €4.3 million in seed funding in a round led by EquityPitcher Ventures and High Tech Gründerfonds, or HTGF. Founded in 2024, Jaipur Robotics develops AI powered computer vision systems for industrial facilities, initially concentrating on waste to energy plants before expanding into other sectors such as cement and biomass.
Targeting Waste to Energy
Waste to energy plants process huge quantities of mixed waste every day, creating a complex operating environment in which material composition can vary significantly.
Operators need to identify hazardous materials, maintain the right mixture of waste and ensure that combustion conditions remain stable. Equipment failures and unplanned shutdowns can also result in significant costs.
Jaipur Robotics says more than 3,100 waste to energy plants operate globally, with many still relying on manual monitoring and analogue processes. The company believes computer vision can provide operators with a more detailed and continuous understanding of waste flows.
Turning Images Into Industrial Data
Jaipur Robotics’ technology uses cameras and artificial intelligence to analyse waste as it enters and moves through a facility. The system converts visual information into actionable data that can support several stages of plant operations.
One application is hazardous material detection. The company says its system can identify potentially dangerous materials with an accuracy of up to 99%.
The technology can also analyse the composition and distribution of incoming waste, helping operators mix materials more effectively. This is particularly important because the calorific value of waste can influence combustion efficiency and overall plant performance.
Supporting Automated Cranes
Another part of Jaipur Robotics’ platform focuses on crane operations.
Waste to energy plants commonly use cranes to move and mix waste inside storage areas before feeding it into the combustion process. These operations can require substantial operator experience and continuous monitoring.
Jaipur Robotics uses computer vision and predictive guidance to help support crane operators and move toward greater automation. By combining visual information with its understanding of waste composition, the system can provide guidance on where material should be moved and mixed.
The company says its technology is trained using a dataset containing more than 50 million labelled images gathered from European waste to energy operations. Its systems currently analyse more than five million tonnes of waste annually.
Improving Plant Reliability
Jaipur Robotics is also targeting one of the biggest operational challenges for industrial facilities, unexpected downtime.
The company reports that deployments of its technology have reduced unplanned shutdowns by more than 80% at individual plants. Its systems can monitor operating conditions and identify information that could help operators respond before problems escalate.
The company’s calorific value mapping technology is designed to support combustion management by providing operators with greater visibility into the energy content of different waste streams.
Expanding Beyond Waste
While waste to energy is Jaipur Robotics’ initial market, the company is developing its technology for a wider range of industrial applications.
The same combination of computer vision, artificial intelligence and automation can potentially be applied to environments where operators need to monitor complex physical materials and processes. The company has identified cement and biomass plants among the industrial sectors where its technology could eventually be deployed.
New Capital for Global Growth
The €4.3 million seed investment will help Jaipur Robotics expand into additional markets and accelerate development of its technology.
The company plans to further improve its waste to energy capabilities while extending its platform to other industrial applications.
By combining computer vision with automation, Jaipur Robotics is aiming to give industrial operators a more detailed digital view of physical processes that have traditionally depended heavily on human observation.
